Old School Methods With a New Twist

Over the years of growing up and watching and listening to all that has transpired in my lifetime, it never seems to amaze me how some things never change. While change is good, there are certain things you and I have learned that will last throughout our lives and will continue to be a benefit to us as we practice what has been taught to us over the years. Fads come and go, different products in the marketplace come and go, certain people come and go in our lives. One thing that is permanent though is a person’s integrity, will, and his or her desire to live a life that will appeal to others in such a way, that respect, responsibility, and obedience will always get a person where they want to go and be in life.

In most cases, our moral character and respect for others, especially our elders, are things you just learn and remember to apply to your daily life when communicating with seniors and peers alike. While many of us attempt to follow the “golden rule” and treat others way we like to be treated, Karma is a good philosophy and concept to follow. The methods we have learned from of old is nothing new today. Before anyone will respect you, you have to respect yourself. Respect has to be earned and once your lifestyle is being lived in such a way, a person can only wonder why you act the way you do. In most instances, it is because you have self-respect for yourself, meaning you have a set of values you will not cross as a person. There has been a set of rules that are planted and essential in your development and no new school methods will compromise your integrity as you attempt to achieve certain goals and decisions that have to be made as you pursue different career choices.

Even though we have the modern technology such as text messaging, social network sites, emailing, faxing and blogging, and let’s not forget snail mail, the communicate gap that should not be left unfulfilled today are normal greetings whether in cyberspace or in person. Communicating online and over the phone are technological ways of getting things done quickly to a certain degree, but in all sincerity the concept of having the right kind of manners that produce good and righteous fruit are of old and that is what will win others over to follow you as long as you are headed in the right direction for yourself and others.

Today’s technology changes instantly, but learning to do good to others are life-long processes that can produce positive character traits that can build life skills in yourself and others that can have meaning, purpose and values. The reality of all that exist today whether or not we have the latest technology, electronic gadgets or any other non personable device, cannot compare to how we treat others, and the way we would like to be treated as individuals. If there is a lack of common courtesy among us regardless of the position of authority, then the only person being defeated is ourselves and what we want to accomplish as a person. Common courtesy is one of the best ways to get respect and to be respected in return. Old school methods that remains the same are factual because we will still meet people face to face, and the results from our first impressions will be our last impression of what people will remember us by.
